Roy is a Global health researcher with a focus on Trauma outcomes and surgical healthcare systems in resource-poor settings. His academic, clinical and research career as the Professor & Chief of Surgical services at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Hospital, HBNI University, Mumbai (an Universal Health Care scheme), spanned two decades.

On the health policy front, Roy has been the Technical Officer globally for Surgery & Anaesthesia in the Clinical Services & Systems unit at WHO Headquarters, Geneva; the Southeast Asia Regional Health Hub lead at Oxford Policy Management, the National Advisor; Public Health Planning and Evidence at NHSRC - Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) India; Director, State Health Systems Strengthening and Knowledge partnerships at CARE-India, Bihar.

Norbert Berend is Head of Respiratory Research at the George Institute for Global Health and a member of the physiology group at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research of which he was the Director from 2000 to 2012. He holds the academic title of Professor, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW Sydney; Professor Emeritus at the University of Sydney; and is a Visiting or Honorary Professor at three Chinese Universities.

He is a past President of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology. He has also held positions with the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society. Norbert’s research interests include the pathophysiology of asthma and COPD and clinical intervention studies to improve the outcome of airways disease.

Norbert is a recipient of the TSANZ Medal, the APSR Medal and has received an Award of Merit from the European Respiratory Society. In 2003 Norbert was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to respiratory medicine.

Dr Parisa Glass is the Director of Innovation and Enterprise for The George Institute for Global Health. In this role, she leads Health 10x Accelerator in partnership with UNSW Sydney. Health 10x accelerator supports startups developing affordable and scalable solutions to some of the most pressing unmet medical needs, globally. 

Parisa also leads UNSW Clinical Research Unit (CRU) which is collaborative program with The George Institute. UNSW CRU supports clinical researchers across UNSW network with operational and academic expertise, systems and tools to conduct high quality and impactful research efficiently and in accordance with best practice guidelines.  

Parisa has a PhD in Biomedical Science and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA). Parisa also holds a Senior Lecturer position with UNSW Sydney.

Parisa joined The George Institute for Global Health in 2008. She has over twenty years’ experience in health and university sectors in an operational and academic capacity. Her expertise is in operational leadership & optimisation, strategic planning, coaching & mentoring, managing change, financial management, program development and management, contract negotiations, stakeholder management and recruiting and developing top talent.

Paula is a PhD student at The George Institute and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney. She is visiting from Chile where she worked as a Stroke Neurologist in Clinica Alemana de Santiago - Universidad del Desarrollo, as well as a research coordinator.

Peeyush Gupta AM is a Non-Executive Director of SBS, Northern Territory Aboriginal Investment Corporation, Quintessence Labs, Dexus, NSW Cancer Council and Liberty Financial Group.

Peeyush was the co-founder and inaugural CEO of IPAC Securities. He was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to business and the community through governance and philanthropic roles.

Peeyush joined the Board in February 2024 and is a Member of the Audit Committee and Investment Committee.

Premjith is Research Manager at The George Institute for Global Health, UK. He looks after the administrative matters of funding applications and funded projects.

Professor Michael Kidd AO is an Australian academic, primary care researcher, educator and clinician. He has a joint appointment as the inaugural Director of the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales, and as Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems with the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford.

Michael also served as the Australia Government’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer during COVID-19. He is a Non-Executive Director of Telstra Health and Therapeutic Guidelines. He is also the Chair of the Therapeutic Guidelines Foundation.

Michael joined the Board in December 2023 and is a Member of the People Committee.

Purnima is a public health specialist and holds an experience of over twelve years in the sector. She has extensive experience in working with policymakers, various international and national partners, multi-state geographies, and environment collaborative projects to strengthen the implementation of various public health programs.

Dr Rao holds a Master’s in hospital administration with a bachelor’s in Dentistry and has worked with various development organizations like PHFI and UNICEF. She is certified in scientific writing from Stanford University, United Kingdom.  She has liaisoned with the various state governments regarding project implementation activities and conducted wide-ranging studies with study centres and locations across India.

At The George Institute India, she is a GCP trainer in charge of the program and manages the clinical trials operations of PACE, Testing on. She is working on quality monitoring clinical drug trials on chronic kidney disease and COVID-19. Now she is also part of the team to develop modules for online clinical trial courses. Her role aligns with capturing and understanding the requirements for the stressors and barriers to accessing psychosocial well-being that are crucial in the deployment and sustainability of the finalised intervention(s). Earlier she worked on NCD projects on urban health and gestational diabetes within The Institute. 

Abhinav Bassi is a physiotherapist trained in public health, currently working as a Senior Research Fellow and Operations Lead at the George Institute for Global Health, India. He has a wealth of experience in epidemiological research, advocacy, and civil society network coordination. At present, Abhinav is leading a team of researchers responsible for designing and conducting pragmatic academic trials specifically in the areas of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and COVID-19. His other work at the George Institute includes developing and testing mobile-based decision support systems to prevent, screen, treat, and manage non-communicable diseases.

Mobile health interventions, automation in project management, and interactive dashboard development are some of his key interest areas. 

Adam is an Intensivist who currently serves as Senior Staff Specialist, Head of Intensive Care Unit Research, and Deputy Director Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

He also holds a part-time Clinician Fellowship with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and honorary positions as an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and University of Adelaide.

Aishwarya is a dental surgeon with training in public health. She completed her undergraduate training from Sudha Rustagi College of Dental Sciences and Research in Faridabad, India. She holds a master’s degree in public health and health promotion from Brunel University, United Kingdom. In addition, recently Aishwarya completed a course in Clinical Trial Fundamentals facilitated by Monash University, Australia

At the George Institute, Aishwarya is involved in the operationalisation and management of several clinical trials and academic randomised clinical trials in areas of renal disease, cardiovascular diseases, and COVID-19. Aishwarya works closely with the trial sponsors, regulatory authorities, ethics committees and clinical sites across India to conduct trials ethically and efficiently.

Allison has been working in clinical research since 1992 and managing clinical trials since 2001, working in the fields of hypertension, preeclampsia, HIV, obesity and respiratory medicine. Allison has worked in hospital settings (St George Hospital, Sydney; Leicester Royal Infirmary, UK; Groote Schuur Hospital, RSA) and University/Medical Research Institutes (Kirby and The George Institute).

Since working at The George Institute, she has worked as a Senior Project Manager and Operational Lead in APO and now holds an academic position in the Respiratory Programme. Allison has managed project teams to deliver multiple clinical trials and research projects such as TASCS, ECOS, PACE in COPD and now the BREATHE CDSS.
