Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam

Profile

Abdul Salam is a clinical and public health researcher interested in cardiovascular disease prevention. He is particularly interested in developing, evaluating, and implementing novel low-cost pharmacological interventions. He has experience in clinical trials, systematic reviews and qualitative health research. Abdul Salam has a Master of Pharmacy (Pharmacology) from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, India, and a PhD in Medicine from The University of Sydney, Australia.

Associate Professor Brendon Neuen

Profile

Associate Professor Brendon Neuen is Lead Global Clinical Trialist at The George Institute for Global Health, and Staff Specialist Nephrologist, Director of Kidney Trials, at Royal North Shore Hospital. He is the Co-Chair of SMART-C (SGLT2 Inhibitor Meta-Analysis Cardio-Renal Trialists' Consortium; www.SMART-C.net), Director of the CLARITY-IgAN Consortium (Collaborative Longitudinal Assessment of Randomised Interventions and Therapies; www.CLARITY-IgAN.org) and holds senior leadership roles in multiple global, late-phase drug registration trials evaluating therapies to prevent kidney failure and cardiovascular disease.

His research has informed more than 30 clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements, and he is actively involved in the development of national and international standards, including for KDIGO and the American Society of Nephrology. A/Prof Neuen has authored over 175 peer-reviewed publications, including works in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, JAMA, and Nature Medicine. He serves on the editorial boards for flagship journals of the European Renal Association and the American Diabetes Association.

A/Prof Neuen studied medicine at James Cook University (First Class Honours, Academic Medal), holds a Masters in Global Health from the University of Oxford (Clarendon Scholar, top-ranked dissertation), a PhD from UNSW (NHMRC funded), and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. A Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology, his work is supported by the NHMRC, Ramaciotti Foundation and philanthropic sources, and has been recognized through awards including the Royal Society of New South Wales Ida Browne Medal and the American Heart Association's Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award.

Associate Professor Sradha Kotwal

Profile

Dr Kotwal is a clinical nephrologist at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney; Program Head of the Renal and Metabolic Division at The George Institute for Global Health and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW. Her research interests include novel and pragmatic clinical trials and she is passionate about increasing clinical trial access for patients with kidney disease and personalised medicine. Dr Kotwal is the Academic Project Director for the GKPTN and the principal investigator for the Glomerular Disease Registry and Biobank in Sydney. She has expertise in translating research into clinical practice and in-depth knowledge of statistical techniques, epidemiology and clinical trial design.

Ben Talbot

Profile

Ben is a doctor from the UK and Advanced Trainee in nephrology who is completing a PhD at the George Institute. The focuses of the PhD is improving the outcomes and economics of treating chronic kidney disease with a particular interest in low-and-middle-income countries. Ben is also involved with the Affordable Dialysis Project – an initiative run by The George Institute to develop a system that can provide low cost dialysis to those who currently cannot afford it. He works as clinical advisor for this project.
