Safer roads for Aboriginal Australians

Road injury is a leading cause of fatal and severe injury for Aboriginal Australians. To better understand why this is, The George Institute has developed a program of work with a team of collaborators focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander road safety.

Following a successful pilot study completed in Bourke in regional New South Wales the Institute is now working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services to develop a larger study to accurately record the factors that impact on road safety and driver licensing from the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The research will also assess the ability of healthcare services to contribute to prevention programs on these issues and build a bank of resources to help develop programs with the community.
