Opportunities for investments

You are invited to join us for the fifth and final session of the webinar series "Safe Homes, Safe Children: Ending the Burn Epidemic in Africa."

Session title: From Evidence to Action: Opportunities for Strengthened Investment
Date: 16 July
Time: 12:00-13:30 GMT (12:00-13:30 Brazzaville)
Format: Online (Zoom)

This webinar series is a partnership between The George Institute for Global Health and the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa, bringing together researchers, policymakers, clinicians, development partners, and practitioners to advance a coordinated response to childhood burns across the continent.

As the concluding session of the series, From Evidence to Action explores how the knowledge generated through research, policy, and practice can be translated into sustained investment for childhood burn prevention and care. Discussions will examine the economic burden of burn injuries, the returns on investing in health systems and the health workforce, opportunities to strengthen financing for prevention, and examples of how broader investments can deliver safer environments and better outcomes for children across Africa.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Matiko Riro - Savannah Global Health Institute
  • Paul Marsden - World Health Organization

Closing reflections:

  • Dr Kofi Nyarko - World Health Organization
  • Prof Julie Brown - The George Institute for Global Health

Join us as we conclude the series by bringing together the key lessons from previous sessions and exploring how stronger partnerships, strategic investment, and evidence-informed action can accelerate progress towards ending the burden of childhood burns in Africa.
