Dr. Devarsetty Praveen is a public health expert with deep knowledge of epidemiological research and a strong focus on using system-based innovations to tackle inequities in chronic disease care. He serves as the Director of the NIHR-funded Global Health Research Center for NCDs and Environmental Changes, as well as the Director of the Primary Health Care Research Consortium Secretariat. In these roles, he leads research efforts that are policy-relevant and aim to strengthen high-quality primary health care systems globally.

Dr. Praveen has extensive experience in designing and implementing large-scale primary care research projects, particularly using digital health strategies (e/m-health) in countries such as India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Thailand. He applies mixed-methods research and implementation science to integrate proven evidence into routine practice, improving access to quality health care.

He is the elected Co-Chair of the Hypertension Research Program within the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases, a network of major research funding agencies dedicated to addressing chronic non-communicable diseases. Dr. Praveen holds a PhD in Medicine from the School of Public Health, University of Sydney.

Professor Jha is Executive Director at The George Institute for Global Health, India, Chair of Global Kidney Health, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London, and the past President of the International Society of Nephrology.

He has wide-ranging research interests, including understanding the health and societal impact of kidney diseases around the world and the development of affordable, scalable and sustainable primary and secondary prevention tools. 

He has worked with many organisations including the WHO to develop clinical practice guidelines and advocacy papers, has lectured extensively around the world, and is a prolific writer and editor.

Renu John works at the George Institute for Global Health India as a Research Fellow on the LIVING study – a lifestyle intervention for diabetes prevention in women with prior gestational diabetes.

She has a Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and a Master of Public Health from Jodhpur National University.

Before working with George, she was an Occupational Health Officer and her research interest lies in occupational and environmental health, women and child health and health promotion.

Professor Peiris plays a lead role in developing and implementing the institute’s research strategy. He is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW Sydney, and is a locum GP with Miwatj Health visiting Galiwin’ku, Elcho Island.

David is passionate about strengthening primary health care worldwide. He is focussed on overcoming the challenges of delivering affordable, high-quality health services and programs to communities across the globe. His research is underpinned by health systems science, a dynamic and emerging discipline that includes health services research, health policy and systems research, and implementation science.

David has published extensively and leads several grants testing innovative strategies to improve access to high-quality primary health care. He is a former Australian Harkness Fellow in Healthcare Policy, based at the Harvard School of Public Health, and was the elected co-chair of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases Committee for Hypertension Control from 2012 to 2015. He sits on several government, non-government and research advisory committees. He is a Lancet commissioner focussed on evidence-based implementation in global health and pandemic preparedness.

Professor Craig Anderson is Professor of Neurology and Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW Sydney, and is in part-time clinical practice as a neurologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia.  

Craig holds specialist qualifications in clinical neurology and geriatrics, a PhD in medicine and epidemiology from The University of Western Australia, and is a Senior Investigator Fellow of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia.  He is a past President of the Asia Pacific Stroke Organisation and the Stroke Society of Australasia, and is a member of several specialist societies and an editor for the Cochrane Stroke Group.  He has published widely on the clinical and epidemiological aspects of stroke, cardiovascular disease and aged care, and has led several large-scale investigator-initiated epidemiological and clinical trials that have had a major influence on clinical practice guidelines for stroke treatment and prevention.

Bronwyn Graham is the Director of the Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine at the George Institute for Global Health, and a Professor in the School of Psychology at UNSW Sydney.

Bronwyn is a behavioural neuroscientist, a clinical psychologist, and a globally recognised expert in women’s mental health. Bronwyn leads an interdisciplinary research team that examines how female-unique factors, like fluctuating sex hormones over the menstrual cycle and pregnancy, impact the development of anxiety and other affective disorders. She employs a bench-to-bedside translational methodology, in which she investigates endocrine regulation of the brain and behaviour in preclinical studies, and then tests the application of these findings in clinical populations. Her work has led to new practice guidelines for treating anxiety disorders in women, and RACGP accredited training programs for mental health care professionals.

Bronwyn has held numerous fellowships, including an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award, a UK-based MQ Fellowship, and an American Australian Association Neurological Fellowship. She is Chief Investigator on multiple Australian Research Council Discovery Projects, and an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence, has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, and has supervised over 40 honours and postgraduate students. 

Bronwyn serves on the MQ Foundation and Lancet Psychiatry Standing Commission on the COVID-19 Pandemic and Mental Health, as well as the Editorial Board of multiple journals spanning different disciplines, including Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, and Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. Bronwyn’s awards include a Psychological Science ‘rising star’, a NSW Young Tall Poppy, and the Biological Psychiatry Aubrey Lewis Award. Bronwyn regularly appears in the media (ABC Lateline, Catalyst, and radio), and she disseminates her findings to health professionals and people with mental health conditions through collaborations with organisations including AnxietyUK.

Professor Helena Legido-Quigley joined The George Institute for Global Health, UK and the School of Public Health, Imperial College London in 2023 as Chair in Health Systems Science.

Professor Legido-Quigley also holds an Associate Professorship in Health Systems at Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore, is an Associate Fellow of Chatham House, a member of the Council of the World Economic Forum and is editor-in-chief of Elsevier’s Journal of Migration and Health.

She is also a member of Women in Global Health, Spain, a role reflective of her commitment to redistributing power in global health, and of her broader emphasis on championing the next generation of global health researchers through mentorship and teaching.

Georgia is a Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor for the Impact and Engagement team at The George Institute, based in the Sydney office. Georgia supports the Institute’s advocacy and political engagement activities in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Her main programmes of activity include women’s health, preventive health, and improving health systems to achieve equity.

Georgia White is an experienced policy professional focused on global health both within government and the non-profit sector. Prior to joining The George Institute, she worked for several years at a global non-profit focused on HIV and TB in New York City. She has also worked as a senior policy adviser within the Victorian Government and in Cambodia as part of Australia’s official development assistance program. Georgia has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Master in Health Policy from The University of Sydney. 

Professor Michael Kidd AO FAHMS is the Chief Medical Officer for Australia. He also holds a joint appointment as the foundation Director of the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and as Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, where he is also a Senior Research Fellow of Green Templeton College, a Fellow of Kellogg College, and co-director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre on Primary Health Care.

He is a member of the Avant Foundation Board, a Governor with the Board of the Centenary Institute, and Patron of the Australian General Practice Research Foundation, General Practice Student Network, and General Practice Registrars Association. He is a past president of both The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and the World Organization of Family Doctors.

Michael joined the Board in December 2023.

 

Roy is a Global health researcher with a focus on Trauma outcomes and surgical healthcare systems in resource-poor settings. His academic, clinical and research career as the Professor & Chief of Surgical services at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Hospital, HBNI University, Mumbai (an Universal Health Care scheme), spanned two decades.

On the health policy front, Roy has been the Technical Officer globally for Surgery & Anaesthesia in the Clinical Services & Systems unit at WHO Headquarters, Geneva; the Southeast Asia Regional Health Hub lead at Oxford Policy Management, the National Advisor; Public Health Planning and Evidence at NHSRC - Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) India; Director, State Health Systems Strengthening and Knowledge partnerships at CARE-India, Bihar.
