Diabetes and Obstructive Sleep Apnea in China (DOSA2)

This project aims to develop a clinical pathway for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) screening, diagnosis and treatment for in-patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in endocrinology department settings.

It will be completed by three steps.

  1. Development of screening and diagnostic strategy/tool for OSA among hospitalized patients with T2DM as well as assessing the accuracy of the proposed strategy/tool. 450 T2DM patients are needed to develop the jointly tool and another 450 T2DM patients are recruited to retest it.
  2. Development of supposed clinical pathway for hospitalized T2DM patients comorbid OSA. Based on the results of step 1 and current guidelines, a drafted clinical pathway will be proposed, and then using Delphi method around 40 to 50 related experts will be recruited to review it.
  3. Pilot and revise the supposed clinical pathway. 600 T2DM patients are needed to assess the supposed clinical pathway. Four tertiary hospitals in Beijing are participating in the projects.
