Webinar series: Protecting lives - children, youth, and vulnerable road users within the safe system

Vulnerable road users in Asia and Pacific session 2

Session 2

Delighted to share that The George Institute for Global Health is a partner in this important webinar series on road safety across Asia and the Pacific — and Session 2 is coming up on 16 June.

The series, led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asia-Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to strengthen road safety capacity across the region, with partners The George Institute for Global Health and the CAREC Program.

Topic: The science of child and vulnerable road user safety within a Safe System framework

Date: 16 June 2026 (Tuesday)

Time: 3:00 PM Manila time (GMT+8)

This session focuses on one of the most critical questions in Safe System thinking: what does it actually take to protect children, young people, and vulnerable road users on our roads? It will cover the physical limits of the human body in a collision, the system design needed to account for those limits, and the wider co-benefits that come with getting this right — for child development, active travel, air quality, and economic outcomes.

Our own Julie Brown will be speaking alongside experts from Safe Kids Malaysia, the Department of Road Safety Kazakhstan, and the Stockholm Environment Institute, with Blaise Murphet moderating.

Speaker include:

  • Julie Brown, The George Institute for Global Health
  • Kulanthayan KC Mani, Safe Kids Malaysia
  • Tanat Assylzhanov, Department of Road Safety, Kazakhstan
  • Gary Haq, Stockholm Environment Institute
  • Blaise Murphet, BM Limited (moderator)
