Together with Aboriginal communities in NSW, Australia, we developed an innovative community led program to assist young Aboriginal drivers attain their license, now implemented in a dozen of locations;

We are developing an affordable dialysis machine, with potential to save millions of lives each year and transform the way kidney disease is treated globally. 

The George Institute India

The George Institute, a wholly owned legal not-for-profit Indian research institute, has been conducting research related activities in India since 2002. The George Institute India’s mission mirrors that of the parent organization, namely the discovery and implementation of solutions to chronic and disabling health problems through research, policy development and capacity building.

A number of large-scale projects in population, health systems and clinical research, funded by a diverse group of sponsors, both public and private, are conducted in India. The George Institute India comprises two distinct operating groups: Research and Development, and Infrastructure and Resources. It has two separate offices - in Hyderabad and New Delhi, where the research staff and senior management are based.

Context and Role

SMART Health technology of The George institute for Global Health is designed to enable the Systematic Medical Appraisal, Referral and Treatment (SMART) of patients at high-risk of premature death or disability.  

There are a number of SMARThealth projects across multiple locations that are in various stages of implementation, and we are looking to bring on a Senior PHP developer to oversee daily operations.

Reporting Relationships

Directly reports to Lead Technology -  SMARThealth

Duties and Key Responsibilities

The Senior PHP Developer would be expected to:

• Manage the day to day operations of several SMARThealth enabled projects.
• Provide ongoing support in management and implementation of  all SMARThealth projects.
• Liase with all projects staff (Research Fellows, Division Heads, Project Managers, CRAs, Data Managers, Statisticians, external parties) and IT staff as required.

Senior PHP Developer should also:

• Demonstrate capability to produce outcomes and achieve objectives within agreed time periods;
• Have strong problem solving, analytical skills, and proven strategic thinking
• Have strong focus on producing the highest quality of work and on ensuring optimum accuracy of outputs;
• Be well organised and efficient, with the capacity to work under pressure;

As a Team Member

• Participate in team meetings and activities relating to SMARThealth application / projects and own work area;
• Participate in special projects to improve processes, tools, systems and organisation;
• Take responsibility for personal learning and development and for setting achievable and meaningful work objectives and managing personal targets, meeting obligations of the Institute’s Performance Management and Development Policy;
• Demonstrate commitment to GI’s values, including performing to an exceptionally high ethical standard and focus on integrity, collaboration and teamwork in all efforts.

Work, Health and Safety

• Comply with GI’s Work Health and Safety Policy and related procedures, and similar policies which apply when visiting the premises of affiliates and collaborating sites.
• Promote and contribute to a safe, secure environment for staff and visitors.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications:  Any Degree/Engineering, computer background is referable.

Experience & knowledge:

• Minimum of 6 years working experience in PHP/MySQL applications
• Knowledge of PHP web frameworks including CodeIgniter, Laravel, etc.
• Knowledge of front-end technologies including CSS3, JavaScript, and HTML5
• Understanding of object-oriented PHP programming
• Proficient with code versioning tools including Git, Bitbucket and SVN
• Knowledge in Database like MySQL, Postgres and able to write queries on own
• Experience in developing customized models as per client requirement
• Experience in working Health Domain Applications is an advantage.
• Experience in developing RESTfull webservices
• Experience in mobile app testing is an advantage
• Knowledge on Python language, Devops is a plus

• Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English and the ability to work well autonomously;
• Excellent team-work {leadership] skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders;
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and to be adaptable to changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments;
