The Better Treatments strategic priority area is focused on identifying better treatments or novel interventions for people with a broad range of health conditions. This involves research within Australia and internationally, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries.
We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow. The role is primarily to assist developing new initiatives in the area of clinical trials of psychedelic therapies. The position will involve working closely with the Role Supervisors; at The George Institute and with two principal investigators of ongoing clinical trials at The Turner Institute, Monash University, Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney
The successful candidate will assist the Role Supervisors with selected activities related to project and funding proposal development in clinical psychedelic research. These include:
- Grant and funding proposal development, coordination, and submission
- Research, writing, and coordination of academic papers
- Design, implementation, coordination, analysis, and communication of survey studies, for health professionals and people with lived experience
Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of funding applications, reports, and other documentation, including undertaking literature reviews and data analysis
- Administering surveys, data collection and analysis, and preparing results
- Coordination of and attendance at meetings of supervisors and wider collaborative groups
- Other duties as directed from time to time
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- An Honours, Masters, PhD (or equivalent) in mental health or closely related research (including psychological sciences, neuroscience, others; PhD preferable)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a highly responsive communication style, and ability to produce clear, succinct reports and documents. Being able to write well for both general and expert readers highly valuable
- Ability to appraise and summarising relevant evidence from multiple disciplines
- Ability to foster collaboration across multiple disciplines and institutions
- Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in the workplace
- Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and thoroughness in research and communication
- Demonstrated analytical and manuscript preparation skills
- Ability to solve complex problems through discretion, innovation, and diagnostic skills
- Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high-level work using software such as Microsoft Office applications and specified University software programs, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages as appropriate
- A demonstrated awareness of the principles of ethical conduct in human research, confidentiality, privacy and information handling
- Previous experience in the design, preparation, and execution of human research trials
- Familiarity with the research literature, trial design, and treatment protocols associated with clinical psychedelic research
