Why we do it

Each year non communicable diseases kill 41 million people and injuries claim 5 million lives, the majority of which are in low-and middle-income countries.

Compounding this is the fact that half the world’s population lacks access to essential health care, and each year an estimated 100 million people are pushed into extreme poverty because of unexpected out-of-pocket health expenses.

The George Institute is focused on better treatments, better care, and healthier societies, to improve the lives of millions of people.

Through a program of research, advocacy/thought leadership, and disruptive social entrepreneurship, we are driving global impact.

We operate globally and locally to target the biggest health problems plaguing our time.

Our impact

For over twenty years, The George Institute has been changing traditional ways of preventing and treating chronic conditions and transforming healthcare delivery, with a focus on underserved populations.

We are a leading voice for the biggest health challenge of the 21st century – the scourge of non-communicable diseases and injury.

Our work and researchers are recognised among the world’s best for scientific impact, excellence, and innovation.

Shaping policy and practice

At The George Institute, we know that changing policy and practice takes more than generating great evidence.

We are working across countries and regions to engage with decision makers and other key stakeholders to enact real change through evidence-informed policy-making and reform.
