Professor Wenyi NIU Receiving the Science Communicator Award

Professor Wenyi NIU, Deputy Director of Department of Social Medicine and Health Education of Peking University Health Science Center, was awarded Favorite Science Communicator of the Year at the 2nd Science Communicator Awards ceremony held on July 29th.

The Science Communication Awards are awarded to highlight the science communicator’s strong sense of social responsibility and dedication, highlight the relevance of science communication and expanding influence, as well as engage the public. About 70 judges, including over 20 academics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, evaluated all nominees and selected the winners.

The Favorite Science Communicator Prize, one of the 5 Science Communication prizes, acknowledges an outstanding individual who is in constant pursuit of the essence of science and raising people’s awareness of science, and establishing the connections between science and the public. The 25 nominees included famous Chinese experts, academics and public figures were in the running towards this award.

Professor NIU is currently the consultant of the Changzhi Study and responsible for the review of intervention strategies of health education. He also provides constructive suggestions and ideas for health education targeted at primary school students. Previously he was also greatly involved in the development of salt reduction intervention strategy for China Rural Health Initiative, the flagship project carried out by The George Institute for Global Health at Peking University Health Science Center.
