Professor Linong JI featured in The Lancet

Professor Linong JI, Chief Scientist of The George Institute for Global Health at Peking University Health Science Center, was featured in the latest issue of The Lancet (Volume 383, Issue 9933, Page 1961, 7 June 2014).

Professor JI, the Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation, Co-Director of the Peking University Diabetes Center and Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Peking University People's Hospital in Beijing, was invited to comment on a study of diabetes as a risk factor for stroke in women compared with men [Lancet 2014,383 (9933):1973].

In addition, Professor JI was also featured on Perspectives section, talking about his family background and study experiences. He also showed his concern about the rising tide of the prevalence of diabetes in China, saying that the wealth that the Chinese people have accumulated over the past 30 years will be wasted in the drains of our dialysis machines.

Professor JI said, there was no template of how to prevent diabetes in a country the size of China we can follow; however, in terms of managing diagnosed diabetes, there were very good examples, like the UK and US, and that was to implement standard care.
