The health systems research program at the George Institute conducts a range of multi-disciplinary research into health systems around the world. The team comprises individuals with expertise in health economics, health financing, primary care, evidence reviews, public health law, implementation research and process evaluations.
The Research Fellow will be responsible for leading and conducting health economic analyses, with a focus on economic evaluations. This will entail roles in existing studies, as well as assisting in the development of new proposals.
To achieve this, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Undertaking a program of health economics research, and in particular, economic evaluations
- Providing a consistent level of contribution to the research activities of the division
- Supervising and recruiting staff for the division as needed
- Working with the Head of the division in developing new study proposals
- Assisting with the preparation of grant applications as required
- Taking the lead and assisting with manuscript preparation
- Maintaining existing collaborations and establishing others as required
- Ensuring that research being conducted is congruent with world best practice
- Remaining abreast of developments in the related division that are relevant to the study and the Institute; providing a source of information to colleagues within the Institute
- Actively developing and promoting the desired culture of The George Institute by ensuring all interactions, documentation and communication are conducted in a manner which supports the stated mission
Success in this role, will be based on a range of key skills and experience:
- Experience in conducting economic evaluation and decision-analytic modelling
- Strong quantitative analyses
- Relevant health/medical qualification, including a PhD
- Experience in the development and coordination of health research projects
- Experience in writing both research papers and grant applications
- Proficient in the use of statistical software (e.g. STATA, SPSS), TreeAge and the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly ie autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
- Ability to see the big picture, yet still focus on detail
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
- Strong focus on quality of work
- Availability and willingness to travel
