Centre for Research Management (CRM)

The George Institute is internationally recognised for running complex, large-scale multi-country clinical trials.

The essence of the Institute’s success is the ability to combine quality research with scientific excellence. The Centre for Research Management (CRM) supports this approach by providing expert operational and strategic support for the Institute’s clinical research activities.

The Institute’s research portfolio is diverse, and embraces a broad range of programs including:

  • randomised clinical trials of new treatment and prevention strategies;
  • cluster randomised trials of novel health service interventions; and
  • observational studies of the causes and outcomes of disease and injury.

The Centre for Research Management provides the Institute's research divisions with support for research project management, statistical services, data management, and good clinical practice (GCP) and quality management.

A centralised approach to these critical aspects of research management makes for scalability of research. Currently more than 20,000 patients are enrolled in, or being recruited to, clinical trials coordinated by the Institute and this number is expected to continue to increase over coming years. The Centre for Research Management will provide the staff, resources and expertise required to manage the growing portfolio with optimal quality and efficiency.

Project Management

The Project Management group provides expertise and resources to all research projects across the Institute, to help share resources between projects and to provide support for projects run by The George Institute, China and The George Institute, India.

Statistics

The Statistics group concentrates on improving quality control and standardising procedures in Institute research. In addition, the team provides advice and training while also conducting methodological research. Since its inception, the group has been actively involved in a variety of projects and activities, including support for several large-scale clinical trials. The group is now developing new standards and quality control procedures and building a program to tackle some recent statistical issues commonly encountered in biomedical research.

Data Management

The Data Management group provides data management support for research projects at the Institute. The group has developed and provided standard operating procedures for the conduct of data management on clinical trials and other research projects to assure quality and ensure that studies are conducted according to world’s best practice.

Good Clinical Practice (GCP) / Quality Management

The unit also provides standard operating procedures for the conduct of clinical trials and other research projects, to ensure both quality assurance/control for all projects and that all studies are conducted according to best practice guidelines.

Training and Development

The Centre for Research Management also provides training and development opportunities for all Institute staff on subjects relevant to its services. This includes training in areas such as regulatory affairs and good clinical practice guidelines.
