We have an exciting new opportunity for self-motivated and enthusiastic Research Fellow to work within our Food Policy Division, and make an impact on research on food policy and nutrition.

The Research Fellow will contribute and lead research on salt reduction initiatives across our various partnerships, including our Centre for Research Excellence. The position will involve working 2 days with the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney, and work with stakeholders and academics across the Institute in Australia and globally, and with key stakeholders externally. The role may require some domestic and international travel.

The positions is full-time, for a fixed term period of 2 years; however, we would be willing to consider part time (0.8FTE) for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Lead and support projects on salt reduction and make a substantive contribution to the related Centre for Research Excellence
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Institute, collaborating centres, other research organisations and research partners
  • Conduct research and development congruent with world best practice
  • Assist in managing and coordinating research projects
  • Assist with the formulation and design of new research and development projects
  • Lead and contribute to the publication of academic outputs, media reports and other outputs to disseminate research finding and promote the work of the Food Policy Division.
  • Contribute to local, national and international meetings of relevance to the area of research expertise and develop working partnerships within relevant research networks
  • Contribute to teaching, and training, including the mentoring and supervision of students
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, reports and forecasts and work to meet budgetary targets

Desired Skills and Experience

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • PhD in a relevant health-related discipline
  • Applicable research experience in food and nutrition
  • Experience working with food composition databases and diet surveys
  • Demonstrated track record in the academic sectors at a post-doctoral level
  • Strong quantitative research skills with experience using statistical analysis tools
  • Experience in the publication and dissemination of journal publications, reports and other written materials
  • Adaptable and able to work in a dynamic environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience working in a team environment
  • Methodical with good attention to detail and strong focus on quality of work for self and others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
